This year has been a long one, filled with ups and downs. Why not make a resolution to have more fun in 2019? There are many ways you can spice up your new year, and checking out the South Carolina State Museum is one of the best local adventures to add to your 2019 agenda. The museum opens up its doors to fun 361 days a year, with endless opportunities for all ages.

Check out five ways you can make your New Year’s resolution a reality at the South Carolina State Museum:

4D Movies

When did you last get a real thrill from your movie-going experience? Fulfill your “have more fun” resolution with SCSM’s 4D Interactive Theater experience. This theater puts you in the seat of the action by engaging your sense with vibrating seats, spritzes of water, puffs of air and more cues perfectly time with each film. Take your movie experience to the next level with a show at the state’s only permanent 4D theater.

Laser Shows or Star Gazing

Learn about all the stars have to offer in SCSM’s 55-foot digital dome planetarium. Whether you’re there to learn about astronomy, gaze at art or take in a spectacular laser show set to Pink Floyd’s crooning, you’re sure to have a memorable experience.

Endless Exhibits

Is learning your vibe? Have more fun in 2019 geeking out over SCSM’s constantly changing exhibits. The museum has four floors of permanent exhibits including subjects ranging from art and history to interactive science. Check out a unique collection of American-made telescopes or marvel at 40-million-year-old whales.

Party at the Museum

What better way to celebrate the New Year than hosting your next event at the beautiful Congaree Vista area with the South Carolina State Museum? You can rent out the museum for an event of 50 people, or even 1,000. Book parts of the museum for a conference, a reception, or anything in between.

If you aren’t ready to host but still want a fun evening out at the museum, plan a midweek date night on a Second Shift Twosday. The museum stays open until 8 p.m. and admission is only $10 for two. You can explore the exhibits, take in an evening viewing in the observatory and jam out to live music on select Tuesdays.

Fun for Kids

Having fun in the New Year doesn’t have to be just for grown-ups. Kids can have a blast, too. In addition to interactive exhibits perfect for young ones, the museum offers an impressive lineup of children’s programs, including sleepover experiences. You can also host your tike’s next birthday party at the SCSM for a 4D whirlwind experience, far-out adventures in science and space, and more. Who knows—you might have a little fun, too.
