As South Carolina’s leader in the prevention of child abuse and neglect, Children’s Trust partners with local organizations across the state to work with the whole family – children, parents, grandparents and caregivers.
Children’s Trust provides a variety of evidence-based programs that help families handle life’s challenges – big and small – together. The organization also trains professionals on how to assist families, protect and support children, and recognize abuse.
Children’s Trust supports home visiting programs that help new mothers during those critical early childhood years, and it delivers the Strengthening Families Program that works with families with children ages 6-11 in those important pre-teen years.
“We know children and families do best when they are connected to strong communities that wrap them in love and support,” says Sue Williams, CEO for Children’s Trust. “When we support programs that strengthen families, everyone benefits.”
Ongoing research into adverse childhood experiences, a statewide initiative led by Children’s Trust, shows that children who are exposed to trauma are much more likely to become adults with problems like depression, alcoholism, obesity, heart and liver disease and decreased workplace performance. Your donation today means there will be more access to resources that build resilient children, stronger families and thriving communities.
One case of child abuse is one too many. Last year there were 19,572 children in established cases of child abuse and neglect — enough to fill nearly 35 elementary schools. Now more than ever, families across South Carolina need your help.
